Cornrows
in Mauritius.
A timeless African braiding tradition. Sleek, close-to-scalp rows crafted with precision — from classic straight-back designs to intricate curved and geometric patterns.

The Art of Cornrows
Cornrows are one of the oldest and most culturally significant braiding techniques in African heritage. They are created by braiding the hair tightly against the scalp in straight, curved or geometric rows, producing a flat, close-to-scalp style that is both practical and deeply expressive.
Unlike box braids or boho braids, cornrows sit entirely against the scalp — there is no free-hanging hair below the braid line (unless extensions are added at the ends). This makes them one of the most low-maintenance and versatile protective styles available.
Styles We Offer
At Mamacita Lounge, our cornrow styles range from simple and classic to intricately detailed. Standard straight-back cornrows are our fastest style, ideal for clients who want a clean look quickly. Curved or parted designs require more time and skill but produce dramatically more intricate results. We also offer feed-in cornrows, where extension hair is gradually added to create length and fullness.
Cornrows can be worn as a standalone full-head style, or used as a base for other styles such as sew-ins. They also make an excellent foundation for Fulani braids when combined with a middle parting and hanging braids at the sides.

Common Questions
How long do cornrows last?
With good scalp care — regular oiling every 2–3 days and protecting with a silk scarf at night — cornrows typically last 4 to 8 weeks. Simpler styles may need refreshing sooner due to new growth at the hairline.
Do you need extensions for cornrows?
Not necessarily. Cornrows can be done entirely with your own hair if it is long enough. Feed-in extensions are added when more length, thickness or a more polished finish is desired. We can advise on the best approach when you WhatsApp us.
Can you do cornrows as a mobile service?
Yes. Cornrows are one of our most requested mobile styles as they take less time than full box braid sets. Whether you’re at a hotel in Grand Baie or a villa in Flic en Flac, we can come to you.
Do cornrows hurt?
When done correctly, no. At Mamacita Lounge we braid at a tension level that produces a clean, long-lasting result without causing discomfort. If you have a sensitive scalp, simply let us know before we start.
